I can't believe people obey government edicts on a day set aside specifically to tell oppressive government to go screw itself. Especially where it applies to fireworks bans. I haven't lived anywhere that fireworks weren't banned, either all the time, or just in time for Independence Day. Or the government only allows sparklers. (confession: I don't really like fireworks)
The whole point of Independence Day (or as I prefer: Secession Day) is that their very act of seceding from Great Britain was illegal.
The sad thing is that Great Britain and King George were much less damaging to the colonists' freedom than the US government now is. Taxes were incredibly tiny and insignificant by comparison and the government almost never actually interfered in a person's life in any way.
The colonists would be astounded that we (and our recent ancestors) have allowed government to get as big as it has without watering the "Tree of Liberty". I'm astounded too. Instead of taking care of the problem when it was manageable, it has been allowed to get to the point that it will be very hard to get control again.
i write the world... among other things.
