i don't know why i have such a hard-on for max's music. but i do. and that ain't gonna change.

i like turning it up really loud and running really fast for as long as i can.

running and running and running... as if someone's chasing me.

this song kicks some serious ass... especially while running.

the first minute and eight seconds of this song might be the best minute and eight seconds in metal. period.

the rest doesn't really hold up to that honor. at all.

hot damn max cavalera just keeps spittin' em out!

last week soulfly released their latest album (entitled omen) and lemme tell ya: it fucking rocks.

now i know that when it comes to groove metal, ya either dig it or ya don't. if ya dig it, you will love that this album features LOTS of melody to go along with the horrifyingly raucous vocals and stacatto guitar riffs we've all come to expect from max and co.

This song in particular really kicks ass (the keyboards are what do it for me).

so getcho ass up and JAM THE FUCK OUT!

musically, i go through phases. lots of 'em. one week it's all phillip glass. the next i'm focusing on dimebag pantera riffs. after that, puccini.

and right now, i can't stop getting a hard-on from oceanlab's "come home" off the sirens of the sea remixed album.

it's been six long, treacherous yet ecstatic years that i stopped rollin' and livin' that unrated club life -- the one that got me in so much trouble...

but goddamn it if i don't still love the music from the scene.

i can never get enough vocal trance. if above & beyond could hook up with max cavalera and dolores o'riordan to create the funkiest trance mix ever i would definitely give up a nut for that.

but this one -- from his soulfly incarnation -- is so fucking rad (especially the chorus at around 1:45) that if you aren't moved to stand up and jam an air guitar then you're probably not human.

a secret dream of mine is to one day play the lead guitar on this song live in front of thousands of groove metal thrashers and just rock the hell out like no man has ever rocked before.


that probably won't ever happen.

but if it does, it could surpass doing two chicks at the same time as the sweetest thing possible.

the first time i saw this i was a freshman in high school (1993).  it was super late, all the lights were off and i couldn't sleep.  so i started flippin' through the channels when i came upon MTV and the show Headbanger's Ball.  this video came on and i nearly shit myself i was so scared.



the next day i went to the mall and bought their cd, Chaos A.D.

it has been a favorite of mine ever since.
