we're just a dot on a massive, unfathomably unknowable universe. instead of fighting that truth, instead of waging war on logic and reason in the name of unprovable hope and the robotically faithful who follow such dogma, why not just tip yer cap and admit you can't possibly know all there is to know?
that's what i'm doin'.

Food for thought: I am a person of faith, and yet I agree with you 100%. It IS possible to have a Kierkegaardian view of religion, to not follow the Church of Mixed Nuts, and to happily allow for the fact that we don't know shit.
ReplyDeleteJust sayin'.
but the whole foundation of religion, adam, is that they claim they DO know shit. they do know that jesus died for their sins, that muhammad was chosen by allah, that the saviour is yet to come in judaism, etc. and that everybody else should believe the same hogwash without questioning its ridiculous base because that's the way to eternal life -- yet another delusional, unfounded claim.
ReplyDeleteIn part you're right, but I think you can distinguish between a person of faith, and the Church. What you're talking about are the tenants of the Church, or organized religion. Personally, I choose not to follow tenants of judgement, division and hate. I don't know anything, just like everyone else. I just follow my gut. Everyone can think/feel for themselves, and that leaves the Church as just another questionable political body.
ReplyDeleteps. Though, as a Cardinals fan, I do think you're at risk of eternal damnation.
you can have all that stuff without the poison of religion. it's called "the golden rule". that's all that's needed. i don't need some guy tellin me i'm going to hell for not believing in his fairytale to do unto others as i would have them do unto me.
ReplyDeleteas for the cards, well, i'd say we're the chosen ones (of the NL at least) considering we have more titles than any other MLB team (excluding the yankees).
The Cards haven't chosen a new manager, have they? I'm no Cards fan, but replacing La Russa is essentially next to impossible.
ReplyDeleteps. We've got Epstein now, so I'm not sweatin' it either. (shut up)
dude, where ya been? cards hired mike matheny -- ex-catcher extraordinaire. he'll be fine. cards are gonna be better next year than they were this year, with or without albert (or tony).
ReplyDeleteand unless theo can strap on some cleats, hit .300 and drive in 100 runs or so i'd say y'all are at least 3 years from making a serious run at a playoff birth. but really, after 103 years, what's another three?
Um, I think I said "shut up."
ReplyDeleteps. duh.
